A commercial bank is an organization established to: accept deposits from individuals and businesses; originate credit by providing loans and offering other financial services essential to the running of a customer s financial or business affairs, including fund transfers, check cashing, safe deposit boxes, etc. In China CBs operate under the
supervision1 of the People s Bank of China and business operations must follow the Commercial Banking2 Law of China. Although CBs do not issue currency, they manage it. Examples of large CBs in China are: Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank. These 4 banks differ from most foreign CBs, because they are state-owned.
