题目:Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
范文:
There has been debate about whether it is the responsibility of parents or that of schools to teach children to become good members of society. While some believe that it is the duty of parents, others think it is up to the school. Personally, I feel that both are important, but I think parents play a more critical role.
To begin with, parents are the first and most influential teachers in a child’s life. They are the ones who instil values such as honesty, kindness, and responsibility, which are essential qualities of a good member of society. For example, if parents consistently demonstrate compassion towards others and have open communication in their family, children are more likely to adopt these behaviours as their own.
That being said, I also think schools have an important role to play in shaping children’s social skills. Schools provide a larger social environment where children can interact with peers from diverse backgrounds. This opportunity can help children develop empathy, tolerance, and respect for differences, which is important for harmonious social interactions. Furthermore, schools can expose children to community-based activities such as volunteering which instils in them the value of helping others and being active citizens.
In conclusion, while schools do play a key role in teaching children to become good members of society, parents have a greater responsibility in shaping their childrens values and behaviours. It is important that these two institutions work together to instil in children the values that will contribute to a harmonious and compassionate society.
